BEED 1-B

I. Introduction
Novel is an extended fictional prose narrative often including the psychological development of the central character and their relationship with the broader world.

II. Literary Piece
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

III. Literary Analysis
SETTING:
The story takes place in the real life, City of Beaufort, North Carolina in 1958-1959.
CHARACTER:
Landon Carter-an old man who through flashback narrates the story of his seventeenth year, the year that change his life.
Jamie Sullivan- a seventeen year old girl, daughter of a Baptist Minister, who is dying of cancer, but who impacts in the life of everyone around her.
Hegbert Sullivan-the writer of the Christmas Angel and Jamie’s father.

PLOT:

In Beaufort, North Carolina, a prank on a student goes terribly wrong and puts the student in the hospital. Landon Carter, a popular student with no defined plans for the future, is held responsible and forced to participate in after-school community service activities as punishment, which include starring as the lead in the school play. Also participating in these activities is Jamie Sullivan, the reverend's daughter who has great ambitions and nothing in common with Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take his activities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of his time with her. But he starts to develop strong feelings for her, something he did not expect to do. The two start a relationship, much to the chagrin of Landon's old popular friends and Jamie's strict reverend father. But when a heart-breaking secret becomes known that puts their relationship to the test, it is then that Landon and Jamie realize the true meaning of love and fate.

POINT OF VIEW
It is written in the first person point of view and narrated by Landon Carter forty years after the facts had unfolded.

THEME:
Love Conquers All
The theme of love conquers all is the most prevalent theme. Every time Landon tries to deny the impact Jamie is having on his life, the love that she is slowly building in him and around him refuses to allow him to turn his back on his better nature. She also spreads her love to everyone else in the community and changes everyone for the better.
God’s Plan
The theme of God’s Plan is also an important idea.

IV. CONCLUSION
A Walk to Remember is a truly moving story that urges us to have faith in true love and to cherish all the wonderful things that we have in our lives.
A walk to remember is a book that you will not want to put until you've reach the last page, because Sparks draws the reader with emotions, descriptions, love and death. For those who enjoys novels that touch your heart and make you think about real life, A walk to remember is perfect for you
