Language:

language was used in soft ways that the readers will not find such more difficulties on reading. In this way words was used normally to interpret the real essence and the message of the piece.

Tone:

feelings is the ceiling of the piece, sensation is being felt when reading to much if you appreciated the piece, in the poem Happiness was the general mode, thus making it more easy to understand it doesn't need many more reading to understand the text. More sympathy was being shown and the deep feeling of love.

There was once a poor woodsman, who went to the jungle to cut wood, sohe might sell it and buy food for his wife and child. And upon a day, when thecool evening had come, wearied, the man lay down to rest and fell into a deepsleep.

From his home in the sky, the god who looks after the destiny of man washot-hearted18 when he saw the man did not move, and he camedown to see if he were dead. When he spake in the wood-cutter’s ear, he awokeand arose, and the fostering god led him home. As they came near the gate, thegod said, “Stand here, whilst I go and see to the welfare of thy wife.”Listening without, the god heard the fond wife say to the little child, “I fearsome evil hath befallen thy kind father. Ever doth he return as it darkensabout us.”

The god knew from her words that the wife was good, and taught the childlove and reverence for its father, therefore was he pleased, and returning tothe woodsman, sent him in haste to his home, and said, “I, myself, will lay thewood in its place.”

The next morning, when the eye of day opened, the fond wife went forwood to build a fire that her husband might eat of hot food ere he went to hisdaily labor, and, lo, when she saw the wood which her husband had brought home,all was turned into gold! Thus had the cherishing god rewarded a husbandfaithful in his work, and a wife loving and thoughtful.

Leaving the house of the worthy woodsman, the god met a man tardilywending his way home with a small, poorly-made bundle of sticks. Approachinghim, the god said, “Wait at the steps. I will go first and see how it is withthy wife.” And the god went up unseen, and heard the wife say to her son, “Everis it thus. Thy father thinks naught of us; he stays away so he need be with usbut little.”

Sadly the god returned to the laggard, took the bundle from him, andbade him go to his wife and child, saying he would put the wood in its place.

Late the following day, long after the husband had gone to his work, thewife went for some wood, and, lo, found all the wood had turned to venomoussnakes! Then was she afraid, and she grew kinder of heart and strove to makeher husband better and happy.

LITERARY ANALYSIS (ELEMENTS /APPROACH)

Thisstory originated from the Laos whichis entitled Love’s Secrets. Thisstory will guide the reader the importance of our relationship with God,because he is our creator and the protector of everyone. This situation talksabout the relationship between the mother and the child and how the fathercomforts his family. But despite of the challenges that we experienced God isalways with us. Those hindrances and problems is part of our life that gives usstrength to face the challenge. We should not lose hope and move on for newlife.

CONCLUSION

Thestory tells about the love within the family. The father must be responsible tohis obligations. His role is to protect and comfort them to preserve the goodrelationship in the family. Every day there is a new things happening in ourlife whatever it is be strong and have faith in God. Give yourself limitationsto avoid temptation that will affect our family.

Themes

A few themes occupied the poet: love, nature, doubt andfaith, suffering, death, immortality - these John Donne has called the greatgranite obsessions of humankind.

Love: Though she was lonely and isolated, Emily appears tohave loved deeply, perhaps only those who have "loved and lost" canlove, with an intensity and desire which can never be fulfilled in the realityof the lovers' touch. Examples: #511, 478, 640.

Nature: A fascination with nature consumed Emily. She summedall her lyrics as "the simple news that nature told," (#441); sheloved "nature's creatures" no matter how insignificant - the robin,the hummingbird, the bee, the butterfly, the rat (#1356 "The rat is theconcisest tenant"). Only the serpent gave her a chill - #986. Other poems:#130, 214, 285, 318, 322, 328, 333, 526, 1463.)

Faith And Doubt: Emily's theological orientation was Puritan- she was taught all the premises of Calvinistic dogma - but she reactedstrenuously against two of them: infant damnation and God's sovereign election ofHis own. There was another force alive in her time that competed for herinterests: that was the force of literary transcendentalism. This explains akind of paradoxical or ambivalent attitude toward matters religious. She lovedto speak of a compassionate Savior and the grandeur of the Scriptures, but shedisliked the hypocrisy and arbitrariness of institutional church. In one of herpoems she approached God in prayer, but she could only worship, she could notpray (#564). At times she came to God in great confidence as in #1052. Inanother she addresses Him progressively as "Burglar, Banker, Father."(#49) There are other lyrics which express grave doubt as in # 338, 185 and376. Other examples are #324,, 1207.

Pain And Sufferin: Emily displays an obsession with pain andsuffering; there is an eagerness in her to examine pain, to measure it, tocalculate it, to intellectualize it as fully as possible. Her last stanzasbecome a catalog of grief and its causes: death, want, cold, despair, exile. In#241, Emily says "I like a look of Agony." Examples # 252, 258, 650.

Death: Many readers have been intrigued by Dickinson'sability to probe the fact of human death. She often adopts the pose of havingalready died before she writes her lyric - #712 and 465. She can look straightat approaching death - # 1100 and 547. Other examples # 49, 182, 1078, 1624,1732

Structural Patterns:

Major pattern is that of a sermon: statement or introductionof topic, elaboration, and conclusion. There are three variations of this majorpattern:

1. The poet makes her initial announcement of topic in anunfigured line (examples: #241, #329)

2. She uses a figure for that purpose (#318, #401).

3. She repeats her statement and its elaboration a number oftimes before drawing a conclusion (#324).

The Character of Her Verse

1. Highly compressed, compact, shy of being exposed.

2. Her style is elliptical - she will say no more than shemust - suggesting either a quality of uncertainty or one of finality.

3. Her lyrics are her highly subjective. One-fifth of thembegin with "I" - she knows no other consciousness.

4. Ambiguity of meaning and syntax. Wrote Higginson:"She almost always grasped whatever she sought, but with some fracture ofgrammar and dictionary on the way."

5. Concreteness - it is nearly a theorem of lyric poetry thatit is as good as it is concrete. Even when she is talking of the most abstractof subjects, Emily specifies it by elaborating it in the concreteness of simileor metaphor.

6. Use of poetic forms such as alliteration, assonance, andconsonance; also onomatopoetic effects, #465.

7. Obscurity. Higginson said " ... she was obscure, andsometimes inscrutable; and though obscurity is sometimes, in Coleridge'sphrase,

Literature is said to be the reflectionof one’s life. Reading some literary analysis makes me feel that like I am inanother world which makes my knowledge wide which I can use in my study andalso to my daily living.

SETTING:

Greenwich Village

Characters:

Johnsy, Sue, Mr. Behrman

Plot:

Exposition:

Greenwich Village is anold town where people enthralled by paintings and art came. At the topmostfloor of a squeaky three-story building lived Sue and Johnsy (nickname forJoanna). They met at a restaurant where they found out that they share the sameinterests when it comes to art and food.

RisingAction:

Six months after Sue andJohnsy started with their joint studio, Johnsy was sick with pneumonia, likeothers in their town. She had very little chance to live, and Sue was saddened.Johnsy said that if the last leaf on the Ivy vine fell, she would pass away.Sue went on to do an art piece, while she requested Johnsy not to look at whatshe was painting. She preceded and called Behrmen, Behrmen was an old guy, butafter hearing Johnsy’s plan, he was upset. He went on to go to the duo’s room,and did something with the thought of Sue.

Climax:

After the sun rose,Johnsy saw the ivy vine and no leaf fell. She was shocked, and watched the leaffor a very one time. Finally, Johnsy realized that she had been a bad girlbecause of that thought. She finally ate food after not eating because shethought that she would pass away already.

FallingAction:

The doctor arrived attheir art studio. He said that Johnsy’s condition is improving at a very goodrate. However, the doctor said that Behrman is also having difficulty becauseof pneumonia. He went on to Behrman’s studio and tried to treat him. The nextday, the doctor came once again and said to Sue. “She’s out of danger. You won.Nutrition and care now – that’s all.”

Denouement:

While Sue was talking toJohnsy, they went on and talked about Behrman. He died at the hospital ago,despite being ill in a measly two days. The janitor found him in a badcondition, mainly because his clothing were wet and icy cold. They found alantern beside him, together with equipment for painting. Sue instructed her tolook at the window, and ask her why she thinks that the last leaf never fell.It never fell because it was Behrman’s masterpiece, and he painted it the nightthe last leaf fell.

Conflict:

In "The LastLeaf", the first conflict is whether the last leaf will drop or not. To bemore clear if Johnsy will die or not.The second one is whether Behrman will paint a masterpiece or not.

Point of view:

I think the point of view of "The Lastleaf" is Omniscient 3rd person point of view. o, Henry controls the storywithout a view of a character.

Theme:

To provide hope for other people even if itmeans sacrificing one's life.

IV. CONCLUSION

This story is that you should never judge someoneby what they appear to be, but by their actions. Behrman acts fierce andaggressive, but his actions show how much he cares about Johnsy. I learned tojudge people, not by their looks, but by their actions, because ultimately,actions are the things that make an impact
passion, hope andpersonal sacrifice. O'Henry give people hope in a quickly transforming worldwhere big business and technology were taking over artsy New York. I think the themes of the storyare Life follows Art, and Mind over Matter

SETTING:

The story takes place in the real life, City ofBeaufort, North Carolina in 1958-1959.

CHARACTER:

Landon Carter-an old man who through flashback narrates thestory of his seventeenth year, the year that change his life.

Jamie Sullivan- a seventeen year old girl, daughter of aBaptist Minister, who is dying of cancer, but who impacts in the life of everyonearound her.

Hegbert Sullivan-the writer of the Christmas Angel and Jamie’sfather.

PLOT:

In Beaufort, North Carolina, a prank on a student goesterribly wrong and puts the student in the hospital. Landon Carter, a popularstudent with no defined plans for the future, is held responsible and forced toparticipate in after-school community service activities as punishment, whichinclude starring as the lead in the school play. Also participating in theseactivities is Jamie Sullivan, the reverend's daughter who has great ambitionsand nothing in common with Landon. When Landon decides he wants to take hisactivities seriously, he asks Jamie for help and begins to spend most of histime with her. But he starts to develop strong feelings for her, something hedid not expect to do. The two start a relationship, much to the chagrin ofLandon's old popular friends and Jamie's strict reverend father. But when aheart-breaking secret becomes known that puts their relationship to the test,it is then that Landon and Jamie realize the true meaning of love and fate.

POINT OF VIEW

It is written in the first person point of view andnarrated by Landon Carter forty years after the facts had unfolded.

THEME:

Love Conquers All

The theme of love conquers all is themost prevalent theme. Every time Landon tries to deny the impact Jamie ishaving on his life, the love that she is slowly building in him and around himrefuses to allow him to turn his back on his better nature. She also spreadsher love to everyone else in the community and changes everyone for the better.

God’s Plan

The theme of God’s Plan is also an important idea.

A Walk toRemember is a truly moving story that urges us to have faith in truelove and to cherish all the wonderful things that we have in our lives.

I.Introduction

The factshere on earths is that, the truth became a lie and a lie became true. The onewho is telling the truth may be accused that he is lying. So, he would bepunished for the mistakes that he was not intended to do with. On the otherhand, one who is telling a lie may become as innocent and would be safe. Howcontrasting it is? An innocent individual would suffer too much pain and hatredwhile he one who is being involved lived free.

Inconnection with it, the literary piece that I have chosen was really the samesituation from what I have stated above. It was entitled as God Sees the Truth,But Waits written by Leo Tolstoy. Leo Tolstoy was a Russian novelist andphilosopher, considered one of the world’s greatest writers. This masterpiecewas very realistic. It was a catchy story where anyone who will read it canrelate. It is all about a young merchant who was being accused of murderingthough he was innocent. He put in prison and here where he died without evenfind justice. It’s a true to life story that would help us realize to whom wecan lean on upon suffering/ experiencing it. In reading this text, you willknow how did the main character faced it and how did the truth proclaimed.

In the town of Vladimir lived ayoung merchant named Ivan Dmitrich Aksionov. He had two shops and a house ofhis own.

Aksionov was a handsome, fair-haired, curly-headed fellow, full offun, and very fond of singing. When quite a young man he had been given todrink, and was riotous when he had had too much; but after he married he gaveup drinking, except now and then.

One summer Aksionov was going to the Nizhny Fair, and as hebade good-bye to his family, his wife said to him, "Ivan Dmitrich, do notstart to-day; I have had a bad dream about you."

Aksionov laughed, and said, "You are afraid that when I get tothe fair I shall go on a spree."

His wife replied: "I do not know what I am afraid of; allI know is that I had a bad dream. I dreamt you returned from the town, and whenyou took off your cap I saw that your hair was quite grey."

Aksionov laughed. "That's a lucky sign," said he."See if I don't sell out all my goods, and bring you some presents fromthe fair."

So he said good-bye to his family, and drove away.

When he had travelled half-way, he met a merchant whom he knew,and they put up at the same inn for the night. They had some tea together, andthen went to bed in adjoining rooms.

It was not Aksionov's habit to sleep late, and, wishing totravel while it was still cool, he aroused his driver before dawn, and told himto put in the horses.

Then he made his way across to the landlord of the inn (wholived in a cottage at the back), paid his bill, and continued his journey.

When he had gone about twenty-five miles, he stopped for thehorses to be fed. Aksionov rested awhile in the passage of the inn, then hestepped out into the porch, and, ordering a samovar to be heated, got out hisguitar and began to play.

Suddenly a troika drove up with tinkling bells and an officialalighted, followed by two soldiers. He came to Aksionov and began to questionhim, asking him who he was and whence he came. Aksionov answered him fully, andsaid, "Won't you have some tea with me?" But the official went oncross-questioning him and asking him. "Where did you spend last night?Were you alone, or with a fellow-merchant? Did you see the other merchant thismorning? Why did you leave the inn before dawn?"

Aksionov wondered why he was asked all these questions, but hedescribed all that had happened, and then added, "Why do youcross-question me as if I were a thief or a robber? I am travelling on businessof my own, and there is no need to question me."

Then the official, calling the soldiers, said, "I am thepolice-officer of this district, and I question you because the merchant withwhom you spent last night has been found with his throat cut. We must searchyour things."

They entered the house. The soldiers and the police-officerunstrapped Aksionov's luggage and searched it. Suddenly the officer drew aknife out of a bag, crying, "Whose knife is this?"

Aksionov looked, and seeing a blood-stained knife taken from hisbag, he was frightened.

"How is it there is blood on this knife?"

Aksionov tried to answer, but could hardly utter a word, and onlystammered: "I--don't know--not mine." Then the police-officer said:"This morning the merchant was found in bed with his throat cut. You arethe only person who could have done it. The house was locked from inside, andno one else was there. Here is this blood-stained knife in your bag and yourface and manner betray you! Tell me how you killed him, and how much money youstole?"

Aksionov swore he had not done it; that he had not seen the merchantafter they had had tea together; that he had no money except eight thousandrubles of his own, and that the knife was not his. But his voice was broken,his face pale, and he trembled with fear as though he went guilty.

The police-officer ordered the soldiers to bind Aksionov and toput him in the cart. As they tied his feet together and flung him into thecart, Aksionov crossed himself and wept. His money and goods were taken fromhim, and he was sent to the nearest town and imprisoned there. Enquiries as tohis character were made in Vladimir. The merchants and other inhabitants ofthat town said that in former days he used to drink and waste his time, butthat he was a good man. Then the trial came on: he was charged with murdering amerchant from Ryazan, and robbing him of twenty thousand rubles.

His wife was in despair, and did not know what to believe. Herchildren were all quite small; one was a baby at her breast. Taking them allwith her, she went to the town where her husband was in jail. At first she wasnot allowed to see him; but after much begging, she obtained permission fromthe officials, and was taken to him. When she saw her husband in prison-dressand in chains, shut up with thieves and criminals, she fell down, and did notcome to her senses for a long time. Then she drew her children to her, and satdown near him. She told him of things at home, and asked about what hadhappened to him. He told her all, and she asked, "What can we donow?"

"We must petition the Czar not to let an innocent manperish."

His wife told him that she had sent a petition to the Czar, butit had not been accepted.

Aksionov did not reply, but only looked downcast.

Then his wife said, "It was not for nothing I dreamt yourhair had turned grey. You remember? You should not have started that day."And passing her fingers through his hair, she said: "Vanya dearest, tellyour wife the truth; was it not you who did it?"

"So you, too, suspect me!" said Aksionov, and, hiding hisface in his hands, he began to weep. Then a soldier came to say that the wifeand children must go away; and Aksionov said good-bye to his family for thelast time.

When they were gone, Aksionov recalled what had been said, andwhen he remembered that his wife also had suspected him, he said to himself,"It seems that only God can know the truth; it is to Him alone we mustappeal, and from Him alone expect mercy."

And Aksionov wrote no more petitions; gave up all hope, andonly prayed to God.

Aksionov was condemned to be flogged and sent to the mines. So hewas flogged with a knot, and when the wounds made by the knot were healed, hewas driven to Siberia with other convicts.

For twenty-six years Aksionov lived as a convict in Siberia.His hair turned white as snow, and his beard grew long, thin, and grey. All hismirth went; he stooped; he walked slowly, spoke little, and never laughed, buthe often prayed.

In prison Aksionov learnt to make boots, and earned a littlemoney, with which he bought The Lives of the Saints. He read this bookwhen there was light enough in the prison; and on Sundays in the prison-churchhe read the lessons and sang in the choir; for his voice was still good.

The prison authorities liked Aksionov for his meekness, and hisfellow-prisoners respected him: they called him "Grandfather," and"The Saint." When they wanted to petition the prison authoritiesabout anything, they always made Aksionov their spokesman, and when there werequarrels among the prisoners they came to him to put things right, and to judgethe matter.

No news reached Aksionov from his home, and he did not evenknow if his wife and children were still alive.

One day a fresh gang of convicts came to the prison. In theevening the old prisoners collected round the new ones and asked them whattowns or villages they came from, and what they were sentenced for. Among therest Aksionov sat down near the newcomers, and listened with downcast air towhat was said.

One of the new convicts, a tall, strong man of sixty, with aclosely-cropped grey beard, was telling the others what be had been arrestedfor.

"Well, friends," he said, "I only took a horse that wastied to a sledge, and I was arrested and accused of stealing. I said I had onlytaken it to get home quicker, and had then let it go; besides, the driver was apersonal friend of mine. So I said, 'It's all right.' 'No,' said they, 'youstole it.' But how or where I stole it they could not say. I once really didsomething wrong, and ought by rights to have come here long ago, but that timeI was not found out. Now I have been sent here for nothing at all... Eh, butit's lies I'm telling you; I've been to Siberia before, but I did not staylong."

"Where are you from?" asked some one.

"From Vladimir. My family are of that town. My name is Makar, andthey also call me Semyonich."

Aksionov raised his head and said: "Tell me, Semyonich, do youknow anything of the merchants Aksionov of Vladimir? Are they stillalive?"

"Know them? Of course I do. The Aksionovs are rich, though theirfather is in Siberia: a sinner like ourselves, it seems! As for you, Gran'dad,how did you come here?"

Aksionov did not like to speak of his misfortune. He only sighed,and said, "For my sins I have been in prison these twenty-six years."

"What sins?" asked Makar Semyonich.

But Aksionov only said, "Well, well--I must have deservedit!" He would have said no more, but his companions told the newcomers howAksionov came to be in Siberia; how some one had killed a merchant, and had putthe knife among Aksionov's things, and Aksionov had been unjustly condemned.

When Makar Semyonich heard this, he looked at Aksionov, slappedhis own knee, and exclaimed, "Well, this is wonderful! Reallywonderful! But how old you've grown, Gran'dad!"

The others asked him why he was so surprised, and where he hadseen Aksionov before; but Makar Semyonich did not reply. He only said:"It's wonderful that we should meet here, lads!"

These words made Aksionov wonder whether this man knew who hadkilled the merchant; so he said, "Perhaps, Semyonich, you have heard ofthat affair, or maybe you've seen me before?"

"How could I help hearing? The world's full of rumours. But it'sa long time ago, and I've forgotten what I heard."

"Perhaps you heard who killed the merchant?" asked Aksionov.

Makar Semyonich laughed, and replied: "It must have been himin whose bag the knife was found! If some one else hid the knife there, 'He'snot a thief till he's caught,' as the saying is. How could any one put a knifeinto your bag while it was under your head? It would surely have woke you up."

When Aksionov heard these words, he felt sure this was the manwho had killed the merchant. He rose and went away. All that night Aksionov layawake. He felt terribly unhappy, and all sorts of images rose in his mind.There was the image of his wife as she was when he parted from her to go to thefair. He saw her as if she were present; her face and her eyes rose before him;he heard her speak and laugh. Then he saw his children, quite little, as they:were at that time: one with a little cloak on, another at his mother's breast.And then he remembered himself as he used to be-young and merry. He rememberedhow he sat playing the guitar in the porch of the inn where he was arrested,and how free from care he had been. He saw, in his mind, the place where he wasflogged, the executioner, and the people standing around; the chains, theconvicts, all the twenty-six years of his prison life, and his premature oldage. The thought of it all made him so wretched that he was ready to killhimself.

"And it's all that villain's doing!" thought Aksionov. Andhis anger was so great against Makar Semyonich that he longed for vengeance,even if he himself should perish for it. He kept repeating prayers all night,but could get no peace. During the day he did not go near Makar Semyonich, noreven look at him.

A fortnight passed in this way. Aksionov could not sleep atnight, and was so miserable that he did not know what to do.

One night as he was walking about the prison he noticed someearth that came rolling out from under one of the shelves on which theprisoners slept. He stopped to see what it was. Suddenly Makar Semyonich creptout from under the shelf, and looked up at Aksionov with frightened face.Aksionov tried to pass without looking at him, but Makar seized his hand andtold him that he had dug a hole under the wall, getting rid of the earth byputting it into his high-boots, and emptying it out every day on the road whenthe prisoners were driven to their work.

"Just you keep quiet, old man, and you shall get out too. If youblab, they'll flog the life out of me, but I will kill you first."

Aksionov trembled with anger as he looked at his enemy. He drew hishand away, saying, "I have no wish to escape, and you have no need to killme; you killed me long ago! As to telling of you--I may do so or not, as Godshall direct."

Next day, when the convicts were led out to work, the convoysoldiers noticed that one or other of the prisoners emptied some earth out ofhis boots. The prison was searched and the tunnel found. The Governor came andquestioned all the prisoners to find out who had dug the hole. They all deniedany knowledge of it. Those who knew would not betray Makar Semyonich, knowinghe would be flogged almost to death. At last the Governor turned to Aksionovwhom he knew to be a just man, and said:

"You are a truthful old man; tell me, before God, who dug thehole?"

Makar Semyonich stood as if he were quite unconcerned, looking atthe Governor and not so much as glancing at Aksionov. Aksionov's lips and handstrembled, and for a long time he could not utter a word. He thought, "Whyshould I screen him who ruined my life? Let him pay for what I have suffered.But if I tell, they will probably flog the life out of him, and maybe I suspecthim wrongly. And, after all, what good would it be to me?"

"Well, old man," repeated the Governor, "tell me thetruth: who has been digging under the wall?"

Aksionov glanced at Makar Semyonich, and said, "I cannot say,your honour. It is not God's will that I should tell! Do what you like with me;I am your hands."

However much the Governor! tried, Aksionov would say no more, andso the matter had to be left.

That night, when Aksionov was lying on his bed and justbeginning to doze, some one came quietly and sat down on his bed. He peeredthrough the darkness and recognised Makar.

"What more do you want of me?" asked Aksionov. "Whyhave you come here?"

Makar Semyonich was silent. So Aksionov sat up and said,"What do you want? Go away, or I will call the guard!"

Makar Semyonich bent close over Aksionov, and whispered,"Ivan Dmitrich, forgive me!"

"What for?" asked Aksionov.

"It was I who killed the merchant and hid the knife among yourthings. I meant to kill you too, but I heard a noise outside, so I hid theknife in your bag and escaped out of the window."

Aksionov was silent, and did not know what to say. Makar Semyonichslid off the bed-shelf and knelt upon the ground. "Ivan Dmitrich,"said he, "forgive me! For the love of God, forgive me! I will confess thatit was I who killed the merchant, and you will be released and can go to yourhome."

"It is easy for you to talk," said Aksionov, "but Ihave suffered for you these twenty-six years. Where could I go to now?... Mywife is dead, and my children have forgotten me. I have nowhere to go..."

Makar Semyonich did not rise, but beat his head on the floor."Ivan Dmitrich, forgive me!" he cried. "When they flogged mewith the knot it was not so hard to bear as it is to see you now ... yet youhad pity on me, and did not tell. For Christ's sake forgive me, wretch that Iam!" And he began to sob.

When Aksionov heard him sobbing he, too, began to weep."God will forgive you!" said he. "Maybe I am a hundred timesworse than you." And at these words his heart grew light, and the longingfor home left him. He no longer had any desire to leave the prison, but onlyhoped for his last hour to come.

In spite of what Aksionov had said, Makar Semyonich confessed,his guilt. But when the order for his release came, Aksionov was already dead.

Ivan Dmitrich Aksenov is amerchant living in a town in Russia, Vladimir.Although Aksenov is prone to drinking, he is not violent, and he is responsibleand well liked by people that know him. One day he decides to go to a fair as abusiness venture, but his wife pleads for him not to go because of a nightmareshe had the previous night. Aksenov doesn't consider his wife's dream andleaves for the fair.
Aksenov meets another merchant on his way, and the two decide to traveltogether. They check into an inn and have a good time drinking, then theyretire separately. Aksenov wakes early in the next morning to get to the fairand leaves without the other merchant. Not far down the road, Aksenov isstopped by some policemen. They explain a merchant was just murdered androbbed, and then they search Aksenov's bag. They find a bloody knife, anddespite Aksenov's claims that he is not the murderer, he is sentenced and sentto Siberia.After his trial flogging, his wife can finally visit him, and she sees thatAksenov's hair has begun to go gray from the stress.
Aksenov spends twenty-six years in Siberia, and, resigned to his fate, hededicates his life to God. He becomes a mediator of sorts in the prison, and heis well respected by the other prisoners and also guards alike. One day somenew prisoners, one of them being Makar Semyonich, are transferred to theprison. After overhearing several conversations, Aksenov is convinced thatMakar Semyonich is the man who committed the murder for which Aksenov wasblamed. Eventually Aksenov confronts Makar Semyonich, but he denies committingthe murder.
One day the guards notice that someone had been strewing dirt around thegrounds, and they search the prison and find a tunnel. Aksenov had found outearlier that it was Makar Semyonich that was digging the hole, but after beingquestioned by the police, Aksenov declares that it is not his place to speakabout the matter. Makar Semyonich approaches Aksenov later that day in aterrible state, and he eventually admits to Aksenov that it was he who killedthe merchant. Aksenov forgives Semyonich, and he feels as if a terrible weighthad been lifted. Makar Semyonich confesses to the authorities, and the processfor Aksenov to be cleared is begun. Unfortunately, Aksenov dies before he canreach home, but he dies in peace.

IV.CONCLUSION

Uponreading this masterpiece of Leo Tolstoy, my mind was opened into reality. it isbecause I really observed those such events in the story wherein the maincharacter Aksenov has been wrongfully accused of a crime which he could notintended to do. So I found it to be realistic. Considering the fact that herein o0ur country, the one who is innocent was being punished. However, those whoare involve are living freely and capable of doing what they want.

Becauseof it, this leads me in realizing that the one who are always be the victim ofunfairness or injustices are those had a golden heart. People with deep conscienceand concern.

Widow - mother of three children one of her son have a diognosis of tuberculosis.

SETTING: At the house of the widow women

PLOT:

After the death of her husband,she supports herself and her child by weaving on the oom. Recently, the child contracted tuberculosis and is terribly ill. While the mother is not the smartest women, she tries her best to save her child.She pulls supernatural bamboo slips(a chinese superstition), make a vow to Buddha, and gives the child his traditional chinese medicine.After the passing of the night and the child showing no sign of improvement,she takes him to a traditional Chinese doctor who has four inch long fingernails. The doctor gives an esoteric diagnosis, claiming the child is suffering from fire overwhelming metal (see notes in story) and prescribes some medicine such as" preserve the infant's life pills."The prescription and the doctor visit cost the mother her savings and the child nevertheless dies shortly thereafter.She sells some of her belongings and with the money holds a funeral for her deceased son.She buys a home, the mother realizes she is now all alone with her loom.With the earlier passing of her husbena and now her son, her home seems much too quiet.

Introduction

Here is a poem byThomas Eric Peet an Egyptian poet which shows distrust of fellow men It voicesthe idea that problems in human relation were as acute then as they are now.This poem will give a generalization about the people you would to trust. There isnothing wrong on who you will to trust the other people but make sure that theyare true also to their selves as you trusted yourself.
